About Dr. Penza-Clyve
Education & Training
I have been working with teenagers and adults since the start of my training in graduate school in 1994. As a licensed psychologist, I have worked in independent private practice since 2002 and served as a staff psychologist at Rhode Island Hospital from 2002 and 2004.
I earned my doctoral degree in Clinical/Developmental Psychology from the University of Maine in Orono. During graduate school, my research interests focused on emotion regulation, in other words the skills used to identify and cope with emotions. For more information on this research as well as a list of my publications, please see my Curriculum Vitae.
After graduate school, I completed my pre-doctoral internship year and three-year postdoctoral fellowship at Brown Medical School in Providence, Rhode Island. Throughout this training I engaged in clinical responsibilities as well as research. I worked with children, teenagers and adults in inpatient (medical and psychiatric), partial hospital and outpatient settings at the various teaching hospitals affiliated with Brown Medical School in and around Providence. At the end of my training, I opened up my private practice in Providence and served as a staff psychologist. In 2006, I relocated to Maine and have been in independent private practice in the Old Port since then.
